"I have found QV to be a great employer, as they have provided me with an abundance of opportunities."

A career in valuation appealed to Melanie as she liked the idea of being out and about looking at property. However, because of the wide range of career paths that QV offers, a different career opportunity within QV arose.

Less than two years into her valuation career, Melanie joined the IT team in Wellington. She became a Business Analyst on the Project Team developing QV's property database. This was very enjoyable, but two years later another opportunity presented itself – back in Auckland as an Account Manager. "This role had two facets to it," says Melanie. "I was able to be involved in valuing again, so I quickly gained my valuation registration, but I was also introduced to the management side of QV's business."

Since then Melanie has continued to manage contracts with Local Authorities in Auckland, although recently her role extended to overseeing QV's Northland operations. Melanie's new title is Regional Account Manager.

"The QV Rating business allows Jan to work in an environment that provides an opportunity to learn something new every day"

Based in Auckland, Jan joined the QV team in 1998 as a Senior Valuer. Over the past five years she has worked primarily within the revaluation environment, and has been involved in assessment of values in Rodney, Manukau, Papakura, Auckland, North Shore City and Palmerston North. The Auckland pilot of 2001 was extended nationwide in 2002 and further enhanced in 2003, which led to her current role heading the revaluation team.

As a manager within QV Rating, Jan is responsible for all revaluation activities, including objections. She has organised the right mix of national expertise and local knowledge within the revaluation team. Jan is renowned in QV for being able to process huge amounts of information and manage multiple tasks. The thrust of the revaluations team is to deliver high -standard consistent -quality revaluations using the best of centralised processing and local knowledge.

The QV Rating business allows Jan to work in an environment that provides an opportunity to learn something new every day. The market is always changing. Our database is continually being enhanced and this provides plenty of scope for growth for her and the business.

“Nick understands that QV can offer a wide range of careers in a number of places”

Nick joined QV coming straight from Massey University and was quickly exposed to a wide range of work as he was put in charge of maintaining the rating valuations for all the commercial, industrial, schools and residential properties in Whangarei city.

Less then twelve months later he transferred into the valuation team and is currently based in the South Auckland region. As well as undertaking residential valuations for a wide range of purposes he has also valued fire stations, education facilities and a number of other properties for several government departments. While his role is predominantly based around valuation, Nick has also been a crucial part in growing the QV brand as he was placed on the highly rated television programme “Mitre 10 Dream Home”. Prior to registration Nick has already undertaken a large variety of work and there is still more yet to come which will set him up well to pass his exams.

Outside of work Nick has just about completed his Masters degree of which QV has sponsored since he started. Post registration Nick understands that QV can offer a wide range of careers in a number of places including Australia and possible other countries QV is currently investigating. Possible careers in QV range from becoming a valuer where you are encouraged to specialise in an area that interests you and/or joining the marketing, IT, corporate services, management team etc.

Nick has now moved across the ditch and joined a subsidiary of QV Egan National Valuers.
