Having problems setting up a Suburb sales notification? >
Maps are displayed with an orange border around them that contain control buttons that allow you to change the map being shown. The following example shows a typical map window and its controls.

The map controls available will change depending on what report the map is being displayed with and some of the controls may not be available all the time. These controls may work differently depending on what type of Internet browser you are using and if that browser is Java enabled.
Navigation controls
These buttons allow you to move the area of the map shown in any direction. You may need to do this if the area/property you are interested in is not shown or is on the edge of the map. Use your mouse to left-click once on the navigation control you want:

North |
A single mouse click on this button moves the centre of the map vertically down 75% of the height of the map window. |

South |
A single mouse click on this button moves the centre of the map window vertically up 75% of the height of the map window. |

East |
A single mouse click on this button moves the centre of the map horizontally to the left 75% of the width of the map window. |

West |
A single mouse click on this button moves the centre of the map horizontally to the right 75% of the width of the map window. |
North east |
A single mouse click on this button moves the centre of the map diagonally down 75% of the height of the map window and to the left 75% of the width of the map window. |
South east |
A single mouse click on this button moves the centre of the map diagonally up 75% of the height of the map window and to the left 75% of the width of the map window. |

South west |
A single mouse click on this button moves the centre of the map diagonally up 75% of the height of the map window and to the right 75% of the width of the map window. |

North west |
A single mouse click on this button moves the centre of the map diagonally down 75% of the height of the map window and to the right 75% of the width of the map window. |
Map controls
Click once on the control to select it. Once selected the control remains selected until you click on another control.

Zoom in |
Zoom in on an area of interest to give you a more detailed view. A single mouse click will centre the map on the point you clicked on and magnify the surrounding area by a factor of two. If your browser is Java enabled then you can left-click and drag a box shape on the map. This results in the selected area filling the map. The aspect ratio for the map is not changed, so if you choose an area that has a very different shape from the map being displayed you will end up seeing a much wider or taller area of the map than you selected. |

Zoom out |
Zoom out on an area of interest to give you a wider view. A single mouse click will centre the map on the point you clicked on and zoom out by a factor of two. If your browser is Java enabled then you can left-click and drag a box shape on the map. This results in the map being enlarged to fit the selected area. The aspect ratio for the map is not changed, so if you choose an area that has a very different shape from the map being displayed you will end up seeing a much wider or taller area of the map than you selected. |

Re-centre |
Centres the map window at the point you have left-clicked on after selecting this control. If your browser is Java enabled then you can left-click and hold on a spot and "drag" the map in the direction you want it move. Re-centering or dragging the map will not change the scale of the map being displayed. |

Select |
Allows you to point and click on a property boundary in the map and be taken to the Property summary screen for that property. |
Scale bar

The scale bar is shown on the bottom-left of a map border and shows you the distance scale of the map being displayed. The scale changes depending on the map being displayed and the units are either in metres or kilometres. You can use this scale to determine approximate sizes of boundaries on the map but remember these will not be precise because of things like your screen curvature and any distortions caused by your printer.
Map legend
The map legend (or "key") describes what the icons, lines and shaded areas on the map are being used for. The map legend will change to show what is being displayed on the current map. If you zoom in or zoom out on the map then the legend may change. The legend shows:
- Icons (or symbols) for fixed buildings/objects such as schools, churches, railway stations, towers and monuments.
- Various coloured or dotted lines to show continuous features like power lines, roads and railway lines.
Areas shaded with colour or patterns for block of land with a designated use or covering such as airports, forests, swamps, quarries and so on.

Java enabled browsers
If your Internet Explorer browser is Java enabled then the full map controls are available to you. You can check if your browser has Java turned on by viewing the instructions on site requirements.
SUBURB SALE NOTIFICATIONS
The suburb selection map works exactly the same way as the map search, except you have a select suburb tool rather than the standard select tool.

Suburb select |
Allows you to select and unselect a suburb on the map. The map shows newly selected suburbs as striped and current suburb sales notifications that you have purchased as hashed. For example, the map below shows Brooklyn as a newly selected suburb and Karori as a current suburb sales notification. |

HAVING PROBLEMS SETTING UP A SUBURB SALES NOTIFICATION?
Here is a step by step guide on how to set up a suburb sales notification:
- Click on the “Select new notification” button on the Sales notification page.
- Select the area of the country that the suburb is in from the drop down list.
- Then look for the suburb that you wish to select. If you can’t see the suburb you want, you may have to zoom in on the map. To do this, select the zoom in tool
and click the place on the map that you want to zoom in to. Keep zooming in until you can see the suburb/area that you want to select.
- Select the suburb that you want by using the suburb select tool
and clicking on the suburb that you want to be notified of sales. The suburb should now appear striped as Brooklyn does in the above map. You can unselect a suburb by clicking on it again. Current suburb sales notifications that you have already purchased are shown as hashed as Karori does in the above map.
- Click the submit button above the map.
