Ranui is a suburb of Waitakere City. It is located about 10 kilometres from central Waitakere and 18 kilometres from central Auckland.
The Waitakere area was originally inhabited by Māori natives before it was settled by Europeans around the mid 1800s. The development of the railway led to the area’s settlement, initially largely for use of farming.
Ranui itself contains many homes throughout the area. It is a popular place of residency because of its location near central Auckland, with many residents commuting into the city for work on a daily basis.
Ranui contains a wide range of shops in the immediate area, including a small supermarket, a pharmacy, a service station, specialty stores, doctor’s offices and two takeaways. Ranui is home to the Ranui Domain and the Pooks Reserve, both excellent spots for outdoor activities.
