many ways to search for a property on qv.co.nz

There are many ways to search for the 2 million properties available on qv.co.nz.  So, if you ever have trouble finding a property it’s probably not because it isn’t there, it’s more likely that the official details we have on the property vary slightly from what you have.  Here’s a few simple tips that should help you find the property you are after with our simple address search or using one of our other easy search options.

The easiest way to search for a property is to use the simple address search found on the qv.co.nz homepage.  Just start entering the address and a list will appear with matching properties.  Keep typing the address and the list will reduce allowing you to select the property you are after from the list.  Once you’ve selected the property you are after, click “search” to go to the property summary screen where you can:

  • view the list of reports available for that property
  • check out samples
  • view the free neighbourhood demographic profile
  • purchase from our extensive range of property information

We recognise that addresses can appear in a variety of formats and as we source our information from over 70 councils throughout New Zealand we’ve tried to make the address format consistent and match it to the most common formats that you know and use. However some apartments and flats can be difficult to find using the address search as your local council may store the address in a different format to what you are expecting.

If you’re searching for an apartment or flat and having trouble, here are some tips to help you:

  • Try entering the address in the following format, e.g. 12B Fernwood Court, or 1/12 Fernwood Court.
  • Enter the address without the flat or apartment number, e.g. 12 Fernwood Court.  This option will then show you the search results of all properties at that base address, which you can then select the property you are after.

If you’re still having problems finding a property, QV.co.nz also has a range of other ways that you can search for a property including map search, certificate of title, legal description and valuation reference. All of these search options can be found by clicking “more search options” on the homepage.

Map search
Our map search is a great way to find a property, particularly if you aren’t sure of a property’s full details or can’t locate it using the address search.  A map search can be used with all of the search options and allows you to enter partial information like just the street name, or select a nearby property.

To do a map search you simply click “view map” after you’ve selected the nearest matching details for the property you are after.  You can then select the property by clicking its location on the map after you have selected the [arrow icon] from the right side of the map.

Legal details
If you know the property’s certificate of title number or legal description, which are generally provided on flyers that you pick up at open homes, then you can use these to search for a property.  Simply:

  1. Go to the search page found by click “more search options” on the homepage
  2. Select the legal details tab at the top of the search area
  3. Start entering the certificate of title number or legal description
  4. Select the matching title or legal description from the list and click “search”
If you have any problems entering the details check out the legal details search tips.

Valuation details
If you know the property’s valuation reference, which can be found on any rates notices from your local council, then you can use this to search for a property. Simply:

  1. Go to the search page found by click “more search options” on the homepage
  2. Select the valuation details tab at the top of the search area
  3. Start entering the valuation reference number
  4. Select the matching valuation reference from the list and click “search”
If you have any problems entering the details check out the valuation details search tips.
