Top and bottom sales 2012

Date: 11 February 2013

2012 was an interesting year for the property market. New Zealand’s property values really started to take off again, spurred on by the Auckland and Christchurch markets. But what did properties really sell for? We look across the country at the two highest and two lowest sales prices in 2012.

Highest sale prices in 2012

Lowest sale prices in 2012

These are residential properties only, including houses, flats and apartments but excluding vacant land. These sales are also open market, so excluding family sales, transfers to trusts and mortgagee sales.

To be included in 2012 the sales and purchase agreement had to be signed in 2012, although the sale may have gone unconditional or settled in 2013. The information used to compile the list is sourced from local councils around the country. Sales are only notified to the local council after the sale has settled, which can be some months later, especially for very high value sales. As a result there may be sales agreements signed in 2012 that have yet to settle and be advised to council and are therefore not in these lists.
