The average New Zealand home increased in value by 7.8% nationally over the past three-month period to the end of December, up from the 6.9% quarterly growth we saw in November, with the national average value now sitting at $1,053,315. This represents an average annual increase of 28.4% for 2021.

Biggest and smallest regional value changes - December quarter 2021

Waitomo saw more home value growth this quarter than anywhere else at a rate of 17.9%. It was followed by Wairoa (16.4%) and Otorohanga (16.3%). At the opposite end of the spectrum, home values declined in Kawerau (-5.4%) and Waimate (-1.4%).
